RiskMap Express · Free online reading
Understand how you’re protected in Spain.
Ten minutes of questions. What comes back is a clear reading of your situation here, written for your circumstances and gone through by one of our advisers before it reaches your inbox.
What this is
- Around ten minutes, on your phone
- Your reading arrives by email
- Reviewed by a named adviser
- Free, and yours to keep
A short set of questions. Written in English, for people who arrived here from somewhere else.
Before you answer anything
Moving here changed how protection works, not only where you live.
Most of what you arranged in your first months was arranged quickly, in a language that wasn’t yours. In Spain, several of those early decisions stay in place for years — and they behave in ways that rarely match home.
01
Your home
The figure from day one is still the figure.
The insurer works from the value stated when the cover was arranged. And it is almost always arranged in a hurry — at the mortgage signing, or the day the keys change hands.
02
Healthcare
Access follows your status, not your address.
It shifts when you change employer, stop contributing, or move to your own account. What people notice is the wait for a specialist — and whether they choose who sees them, and in which language.
03
Third-party liability
The least-examined cover reaches furthest.
It follows the harm you could cause someone else, and your own assets answer for it — here and beyond here. Arriving from elsewhere, it is a common gap: back home it came bundled somewhere else.
What arrives
A reading of your situation, in plain English.
Written for your circumstances, in the register an adviser would use across a table. Short enough to read on the way home, and yours to keep.
RiskMap Express · Prepared for Emma · DYLSI, Palma
Hi Emma,
I’ve been through your answers. Here is how I read it.
Your areas at a glance
| Personal protection | Green | |
| Income protection | Red | |
| Home and assets | Amber | |
| Liability | Amber |
Green means the basics are in place. Amber means it’s worth a closer look. Red marks where we would start in your case.
Personal protection · Green
In Spain, public and private healthcare run as two parallel systems — and most foreign residents end up using both without ever quite deciding which one covers what.
In your case, access to medical care is sorted and, if something happened to you, your family could continue with their normal life over here. This isn’t usually the case for most foreign residents who have been here only a few years.
Your circumstances can change over time, and your insurance policies have to be adjusted to suit your new needs. That’s exactly what we review in the RiskMap session.
Income protection · Red
If your income doesn’t come from employment in Spain, there’s no benefit entitlement if you can no longer generate it. Access to the welfare system doesn’t apply to your situation — and that isn’t always obvious from the outside.
Based on what you’ve told us about your financial situation, losing your income would have an impact on your household finances within weeks, rather than months. It’s the kind of situation that forces major life decisions in a hurry. And you’re not entirely sure what your income would be under that scenario. It’s the usual answer — and the most expensive one to find out on the go.
This is the first area we would like to prioritise in your particular case. In the RiskMap session we look at which part of that risk makes sense to carry and which doesn’t.
Home and assets · Amber
In Spain, the sum you insure your home for isn’t just a number on the policy — it’s the figure the insurer uses to work out what they’ll pay you if something goes wrong. Insure it for less than it’s actually worth and they can cut your payout by the same proportion. This isn’t sharp practice or a clause buried in the small print; it’s written into Spanish insurance law. And almost no one realises it when they sign.
You’re in the middle of buying, so whatever insurance you have today is about to change. It’s the ideal moment to set it up properly — and also the moment when it’s most often arranged in a rush.
There’s no pressure to make a decision today, but it is worth looking at all the scenarios before anything becomes pressing. It’s one of the first things we like to put in order in the RiskMap session.
Liability · Amber
Almost every home policy in Spain includes family liability cover — but with a limit that was set by default and has rarely been looked at since. It handles the everyday well. Where it falls short is the exceptional — which is exactly when it matters.
That’s your situation: you know you have some sort of cover, but not how much or what it includes. The difference between one limit and another is never felt — until the day there’s a claim.
There’s no pressure to make a decision today, but it is worth looking at all the scenarios before anything becomes pressing. It’s one of the first things we like to put in order in the RiskMap session.
If you’d like to go through it together, you can book a RiskMap session: no obligation, no quote, just a conversation about what matters in your situation.

Before you decide
Questions people ask first.
Is it genuinely free?
Yes. The reading is prepared and sent at no cost, and it stands on its own — it’s yours to keep, act on, or file away for later.
How long does the whole thing take?
Around ten minutes to answer the questions. Your reading follows afterwards, once one of the advisers has been through what you wrote and put it into their own words. Expect it within two working days.
What happens to what I tell you?
It’s used to prepare your reading and to write back to you. DYLSI is the controller, and you can ask for access, correction or deletion at any time. The full detail sits with the consent step on the form above.
What if I only want to understand where I stand?
That’s exactly what this is for. Plenty of people use the reading to confirm what they already have arranged, and keep it as a reference point for the next time something in their life here changes.
Do I need to have anything arranged in Spain already?
Either way works. The reading describes your situation as it actually is today, whether you’ve been here for years or you’re still unpacking.
